A Place to Learn,
Explore & Grow

A Place to Learn,
Explore
& Grow

At St James, we believe children thrive in environments where they feel safe, supported, and free to explore. Each class is led by a four-year university-qualified early childhood teacher, supported by experienced diploma-trained educators and inclusion support assistants for children who need a little extra help.

We offer a play-based program during school terms, with children bringing their own lunch and water bottle each day. This helps them develop responsibility and independence, important skills as they prepare for school.

Our centre is filled with natural light, open green space, and plenty of opportunities for hands-on learning. From our veggie garden and chickens to our pet lizard and fish, we invite children into a world that feels like home.

We’d love to welcome you and your child into our community and show you what makes St James a truly special place to learn and grow.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What age group do you cater for?

We welcome children aged 3 to 5 years into our kindergarten program.

The typical age for kindy in Queensland is 4 years old, but some children start earlier, and others benefit from a second year of kindy to help build confidence and prepare for school.

We support each child's unique journey and work closely with families to ensure they’re thriving, ready, and confident for the next stage of learning.

Is my child eligible for government funding?

Yes! We are a Queensland Government-approved kindergarten, which means families may be eligible for Kindy funding to help reduce fees.

From 2024, the Queensland Government is offering Free Kindy for eligible children attending an approved kindergarten program. This funding helps ensure all children can access high-quality early childhood education.

To check your eligibility and learn more, visit the Queensland Government Kindy website or contact us for assistance.

What are your operating hours?

We operate from 8:15AM to 2:30 PM, Monday to Friday, during school terms.

What is the class size?

Each class is capped at 22 children, ensuring a warm, personal learning environment. Every group is led by a university-qualified early childhood teacher and supported by diploma-trained educators who work closely with the children each day.

We welcome children who may need additional support, and they are further assisted by inclusion support assistants, helping every child thrive at their own pace.

Do you provide food and snacks?

We ask that children bring their own nutritious lunch and snacks each day. This gives them the opportunity to learn important school-readiness skills, like managing their own lunchbox, choosing what to eat, and taking responsibility for their belongings.

Children are also asked to bring a water bottle, which they can refill throughout the day to stay hydrated and develop healthy habits.

Is there an outdoor play area?

Absolutely! Our outdoor environment is a key part of our program and offers a rich variety of spaces for play, learning, and discovery.

Children enjoy:

  • Two large sandpits for sensory exploration

  • A large swing area and soft fall for safe active play

  • Open grassed areas and abundant trees that create a calm, homely atmosphere

  • A veggie garden, chickens, pet lizard, and fish, helping children learn about nature and responsibility

Our outdoor space is designed to inspire curiosity, movement, and connection with the world around them.

Is St James a Christian kindergarten?

Yes. St James is a Lutheran, Christian kindergarten, and our faith is gently interwoven into daily life at kindy.

This includes regular moments of thankfulness, kindness, and care, as well as Christian values that shape how we learn and relate to one another. Our approach is warm, inclusive, and focused on helping children feel loved, supported, and part of a caring community.
